As Many As 95 Percent Of Surabaya Residents Obey Masks
JAKARTA - As many as 95 percent of residents in the city of Surabaya, East Java obey wearing masks. This was revealed based on the results of simultaneous raids held by the Surabaya City Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) together with the police and TNI in 31 sub-districts for three days, July 23-25, 2020.
"That is what we continue to massive, even though three days have been completed, we will continue to monitor it," said Head of the Surabaya City Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) Eddy Christijanto, quoted from Antara, Sunday, July 26.
According to him, in addition to curbing masks, this raid also targets coffee shops and restaurants, especially business activities outside Article 20 of the Surabaya Mayor Regulation (Perwali) Number 33 of 2020 concerning New Normal Guidelines which are still open after 22.00 WIB. .
Eddy said based on the results of the raid, 95 percent of the people obeyed wearing masks, while the rest, masks were still placed on the chin, pockets, and bags. This means that the community already knows that they must wear a mask outside the house.
"If we ask, wear a mask, we want to get a ticket, it turns out that he brought a mask. The mask was taken from the bag, we asked him to use it, on average," he said.
Therefore, the Head of the Surabaya Satpol PP emphasized that in the future curfew will continue to be held even though it does not take place simultaneously as a commitment of the city government in enforcing Perwali No. 33/2020 to break the chain of spreading COVID-19.
"Although not simultaneously, every day we continue to do that, because it is the mandate of Perwali 33/2020," he said.
In addition to holding simultaneous raids in 31 sub-districts, he said, at the same time the Surabaya Municipal Satpol PP along with the police and garrisons also conducted a curfew operation on the Kota Pahlawan protocol road. The targets are business activities outside of Article 20 of Perwali 33/2020, such as karaoke houses, bars, and discos.
"Yesterday, almost every day, my friends targeted around 20-25 RHU (public entertainment houses), many of which were closed. But there are still some who are open. So we have to ask for those who open, to close," he said.
Eddy added that his party together with the police and TNI could not work alone without the assistance of supervision from the community. For that, he said, the public is expected to actively participate in monitoring by reporting.
"With a large number of RHUs, we can't be broad, so that information from the public that we received that day, both from 112 and so on, will immediately be followed up," he said again.
