Indonesia Wins Thomas Cup, Jojo: This Victory Is For Indonesian People
JAKARTA - The men's singles badminton player Jonatan Christie said the Thomas Cup won by the Garuda squad was dedicated to all Indonesian people.
As is known, Indonesia came out as champion and was entitled to win the Thomas Cup after defeating China 3-0 in the final match which took place at Ceres Arena, Aarhus, Denmark, Sunday night WIB.
The players who contributed to the winning numbers for Indonesia that night, including the men's singles Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonatan Christie, and the men's doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.
"We dedicate this victory to all the people of Indonesia. We present the victory by reclaiming the Thomas Cup for our families, coaches, support teams, PBSI administrators, and Indonesian badminton lovers," Jonatan said in Antara, Monday, October 18.
Jojo, Jonatan Christie's nickname, who appeared in the third party, defeated Li Shi Feng in three games 21-14, 18-21, 21-14, and at the same time ensured the Red and White team's victory.
"I played well, even though I lost in the second game. In the second game, I tried to catch up, but it was too late. But in the third game I got up and fought again," said Jojo.
Meanwhile, the captain of the Thomas Indonesia team, Hendra Setiawan, specifically thanked his colleagues who had fought to win the Thomas Cup.
"Thank you to the players who have fought. Thank you to the coach and support team who have worked together until we won. This success is due to the togetherness and cohesiveness of the team,” said Hendra.
