World Bank Called To Distribute 160 Billion US Dollars To Help 100 Countries Deal With The Pandemic
JAKARTA - The World Bank is said to have provided funding of 160 billion US dollars for 100 countries in the world, for handling health crises, procurement and vaccine programs, as well as socio-economic assistance due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The information was shared by the Minister of Finance (Minister of Finance) Sri Mulyani while attending the annual meeting of the World Bank and IMF in Washington DC, United States.
According to the Minister of Finance, the pandemic is a threat to all countries in the world. People's health and safety are threatened, accompanied by declining social and economic conditions.
In fact, if it is not handled properly, the current situation has the potential to become even worse.
"The world will continue to be faced with various possible crises, both in the fields of health, economy, natural disasters and threats due to climate change," Sri Mulyani said on the @smindrawati Instagram page quoted on Sunday, October 17.
The Minister of Finance added that the development of the problems that occurred today was quite unique. The reason is that none of the countries in the world can definitely avoid and avoid the threat of the corona outbreak. For this reason, he assesses the importance of establishing cooperation between nations and strategic international institutions for mitigation efforts and minimizing the impact.
“This crisis knows no national borders. International cooperation and the role of multilateral institutions are absolutely necessary. To deal with the threat of climate change, developing countries need funding and access to technology so that they can adapt and mitigate the risks of climate change,” he said.
Furthermore, the state treasurer also revealed that the role of the World Bank in providing flexible and responsive funding instruments to assist member countries is very important.
Also in helping to bridge the presence of funding and the role of the private sector (creative financing) in solving development problems that are increasingly complex and urgent.
"The world must be able to move forward and grow together, to create just and sustainable prosperity," he said.
The Minister of Finance said that the task must be answered by policy makers through global cooperation.
"We all have to build prosperity based on the principles of independence, sovereignty, social justice and eternal peace, as mandated by our nation's founders," concluded Sri Mulyani.
