Hunting For Tiger's Footsteps That Predated Residents, NGO Members Disappeared In The Langkup River

JAMBI - The Jambi Basarnas sent a team from the Kerinci SAR Post to help search for a member of the environmental non-governmental organization (NGO), Flora and Fauna International, who drowned in the Langkup River, Merangin Regency.

The head of the Jambi Basarnas, Abdul Malik, through an official statement received on Saturday, October 16, said that the search for one drowning victim was carried out after his party received information from residents related to the incident.

His party received a report that one member of an environmental NGO fell and drowned in the river while on duty to find traces of a tiger that had preyed on local residents.

"Our team received reports that someone fell and drowned in the river while trying to find a tiger, where a member of Flora and Fauna International fell and drowned in the Langkup Merangin River," he said.

Communications Basarnas Jambi received information from Wido, a member of Flora Fauna International, that one member drowned in the Langkup River in Renah Kemmuuh Village, Jangkat District, Merangin Regency, Jambi Province.

The incident occurred on Friday, October 15, at around 10.00 WIB, where the victim and four of his friends were monitoring tigers in the area.

At that time, the victim and four of his friends were about to cross the river. It turned out that the victim slipped and was swept away by the current of the river. The victim's name is Hendar (52), a resident of Mukomuko, Bengkulu Province who went to Merangin to help find the whereabouts of a tiger that had preyed on two residents in Meragin.

"After we received this information, I dispatched a team from the Kerinci SAR Post at 07.15 WIB with equipment such as a rescue car, water rescue equipment, medical equipment, and a satellite cellphone (cell phone) because the area does not have a network," said Abdul Malik.

Until now, a team from the Kerinci SAR Post is still on its way to the scene of the incident to assist in the search for the drowning victim in the Langkup River.
