Papuans Are Enthusiastic To Watch The Closing Ceremony Of XX PON, The Queue Is Snaking

JAKARTA - The enthusiasm of Papuans who want to watch the closing ceremony of the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) is very high, as can be seen from the long queues that snaked at the entrance to the Lukas Enembe stadium in Jayapura, Friday afternoon.

Ivon, who came with his husband and co-workers, intended to witness the magnificent event which, according to him, was the first time in Papua.

"Because yesterday the opening did not watch. This is something big in Papua for the first time, so I want to watch it live," said Ivon as quoted by Antara.

In addition to the grandeur of the event, Ivon, who lives in Sentani, wanted to see the flag and athlete parade sessions to witness firsthand “how athletes are appreciated for having competed.”

While Ivon was unable to watch a sports match, her husband, John, did watch a muaythai match, which he said went very well.

“Because this is the first time in Papua, this is something extraordinary. Although there have been several incidents, this is the first event so it cannot be compared and needs to be appreciated,” said John.

The same thing was also conveyed by Rian who came with his brother and sister. The Waena resident wanted to be an eye witness to the closing of the sporting event which only takes place once every four years.

"So I'm curious about the concept of the event, the guest stars because the opening time is only watching via YouTube," said Rian.

Rian, who was also a committee member for softball, tennis and rowing, saw that the Papua PON was running smoothly and successfully, although there were problems with consumption.

While the queue was snaking, the organizers continued to remind them to adhere to health protocols by maintaining a distance, also maintaining luggage, and not bringing sharp objects, matches and mineral bottles into the stadium.

Before entering the stadium area, the audience must show an invitation with a hologram sticker. The entrance to the Lukas Enembe main stadium opens at 15.30 WIT. According to the committee, every spectator will go through a body screening check.
