Edouard Mendy's Name Missing From Ballon D'Or Nomination List, Sadio Mane: This Is Unacceptable!
JAKARTA - Sadio Mane reacts to the loss of Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard's name from the list of 30 Ballon d'Or nominees. While other goalkeepers such as Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG) and Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich) are still there.
Mendy arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2020. At that time, the Blues wanted to find a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga, whose appearance was flimsy.
The former Rennes goalkeeper had an important role for the French side that qualified for the Champions League the previous season. And at Chelsea, he successfully lifted the 2021 Champions League trophy.
"It's unacceptable, I don't understand it," said Sadio Mane, Mendy's country mate, in an interview with Onze Mondial.
"Edou is a very positive person, we talked about it together and he will continue to fight to be a part of it. For me, he has a place among these 30 players."
In contrast, Mendy was more accepting of the decision although it is difficult to understand how the winner of the UEFA European Goalkeeper of the Year award could not be included on the Ballon d'Or list when another goalkeeper did.
"Honestly, I'm already very proud to represent my country and to be one of the 10 best goalkeepers in the world," Mendy explained to Onze Mondial.
"I have a lot of ambition, but it's a good step. There will always be debate, but it depends on the freedom of choice of journalists and they must be respected."
