After The Medal Hunt As A Sign Of Achievement In PON Papua, West Java, First Again!

JAKARTA - The contingent of West Java Province defended its title as the defending champion of the National Sports Week (PON) after dominating the medal collection in Papua.

Launching Antara, the Tanah Pasundan contingent defended the overall title they won at the 2016 PON XIX, collecting a total of 353 medals, consisting of 133 gold, 105 silver and 112 bronze medals.

"West Java kahiji deui euy (first West Java)," said West Java weightlifting coach Usdi Permana in Jayapura.

Weightlifting is one of the fertile fields for West Java by donating 8 gold.

DKI Jakarta rose to second place from the ranking they occupied at PON 2016 by collecting a total of 301 medals consisting of 110 gold, 91 silver and 100 bronze.

Meanwhile, East Java had to drop to third place with a total of 287 medals, consisting of 110 gold, 89 silver and 88 bronze.

The XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) was closed Friday night by the Indonesian Vice President Makruf Amin.

The medal hunt has ended as a sign of the fastest, highest and strongest achievement of 34 provincial contingents from all over Indonesia, since it was officially opened by Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the Lukas Enembe Stadium, Sunday (2/10).

Even though DKI Jakarta finished as the runner up of PON Papua, these Betawi champions in the historical record of PON dominated the title as host and overall champion.
