The new Superman is named Jonathan Kent who is the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lent. In his new story, Jonathan will be told to have a relationship with a man named Jay Nakamura.
This story is part of the latest Superman comic series, Son of Kal-El. The plot focuses on Jonathan Kent who adapts as the new Superman on earth with a series of conflicts.
The character Jay Nakamura is a journalist who knows about Jon Kent's activities. They will share the ups and downs together as Jon lives life as Superman.
"The symbol of Superman is someone who has always stood for hope, truth, and justice. Today, this symbol represents even more," Tom Taylor quoted DC Comics as saying.
It turned out that the news of Superman as bisexual drew criticism, one of which came from actor Dean Cain who had played Clark Kent in the 1993 series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.
Launching the Hollywood Reporter today, October 14, Dean Cain considers DC's move not something amazing.
"I don't think this is a good direction. If they did it 20 years ago, maybe they could be called brave,” said Dean Cain, who is also known to be bisexual.
According to Cain, DC Comics could have made Superman's character bisexual long ago. In addition, they should develop problems and how the figure of Superman can help the community.
“There are a lot of bad people in the world today, corruption and government that really exists… It would be great to be able to make an issue (in the comics) like that.”
In Indonesia, several politicians have also expressed their criticisms. Even a member of Commission VIII of the House of Representatives, Achmad Fadil Muzakki Syah, said that products published by DC Comics featuring Superman as a bisexual man were dangerous for children's development.
