East Java Police Unravel Cases Of Buying And Selling Protected Animals, Safeguarding Javan Langurs And Hornbills

SURABAYA - The Unit I Team of Sub-Directorate IV of the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) of the East Java Police uncovered allegations of buying and selling protected animals between regions in Tulungagung and Jember.

The Head of Public Relations of the East Java Police, Kombes Gatot Repli Handoko, said that from the demolition effort, the East Java Police arrested two suspects with the initials VRW, 29, and SFSS, 25.

This disclosure, said Gatot, began on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at around 19.30 WIB, officers arrested the perpetrator with the initials VRW.

"The arrest of the alleged perpetrator was carried out at his house in the Sodo Hamlet area RT 01/RW 01, Sodo Village, Pakel District, Tulungagung Regency. Then the development of the alleged perpetrator was carried out," he said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, October 13.

From the information of the VRW suspect, it was known that there were other suspects, and on October 6, 2021 at around 02.15 WIB, officers from Unit I sub-directorate IV Tipidter arrested the suspected SFSS perpetrator at his home in Kamal Hamlet, Arjasa District, Jember Regency.

"The two suspects were arrested for violating the legal basis regarding trading protected animals alive and dead," he said.

The Head of the Tipidter Sub-Directorate of the Ditreskrimsus Polda Jatim, AKBP Oki Ahadian, said that the disclosure occurred after members received accurate information that pointed to one VRW suspect and was then secured in Tulungagung.

After getting the evidence, the officers moved to another suspect in the Jember area.

"The team moved quickly and finally another suspect with the initials SFSS was arrested in Jember. After being secured, it was further deepened and it was discovered that these two suspects often sold rare animals alive or dead," he said.

The mode is that the two suspects are both looking for and buying rare animals which they then sell again through social media.

"Until now, we are still investigating the case, it is suspected that there are still many of their networks," he said.

From the disclosure, the police secured evidence in the form of a cell phone, two savings books, two Java Langurs alive, two Java Langurs dead and one Binturong alive, one Hornbill bird alive and used packaging. sending animals from VRW suspects.

Meanwhile, from the hands of the suspect SFS, the police secured evidence, including two mobile phones, two savings accounts, six Rangkok chicks, one Binturong, one Hedgehog, one Musang Rase, three iron cages and four plastic fruit baskets.

The two suspects are threatened with Article 40 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 21 paragraph (2) letters a, b, and d of Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning the Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and Their Ecosystems with a penalty of five years and a fine of Rp. 100 million.
