Mount Merapi Today: Earthquake Falls 203 Times

JAKARTA - The Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG), stated that Mount Merapi on the border of DI Yogyakarta and Central Java experienced 203 avalanches during the observation period on Tuesday, October 12 at 00.00-24.00 WIB.

Head of BPPTKG Hanik Humaida, said that apart from avalanche earthquakes, during the observation period, 299 hybrid or multi-phase earthquakes were recorded, 28 gusts earthquakes, one tectonic earthquake and 30 low-frequency earthquakes.

Based on visual observations, it appears white smoke coming out of Mount Merapi with moderate to thick intensity with a height of about 50 meters above the peak.

During the observation period, 12 incandescent lava avalanches were recorded from the mountain with a maximum sliding distance of 1,500 meters to the southwest. cubic meters and the volume of the central dome is 2,854,000 cubic meters.

"Until now, BPPTKG still maintains the status of Mount Merapi at level III or standby," said Hanik as quoted by Antara.

The lava fall and hot clouds of Mount Merapi are expected to have an impact on the south-southwest sector which includes the Yellow River, Boyong, Bedog, Krasak, Bebeng, and Kali Putih.

When an eruption occurs, the ejection of volcanic material from Mount Merapi is estimated to be able to reach an area within a radius of three kilometers from the top of the mountain.
