Due To Chip Crisis, Honda Temporarily Stops Mobilio Production
JAKARTA – Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) revealed that it has temporarily suspended the production of Honda Mobilio. This is intended to deal with the semiconductor chip crisis that rocked the global automotive industry.
The HPM explained that the shortage of semiconductor chips had hampered car production in the country. As a result, the delivery of cars to consumers is also disrupted.
For information, the chip used by Mobilio is the same chip as the Brio. Therefore, HPM must decide which vehicles should be prioritized for production.
HPM explained that it decided to choose the Brio as a priority so that the production of the Mobilio had to be temporarily halted starting in September. Then this is what is recorded in Gaikindo, where the number of Mobilio is zero units. This was conveyed by Yusak Billy as HPM's Business Innovation and Sales & Marketing Director.
“We prioritize production for models with high demand amidst the limited components available. Because Honda Brio has a very high demand, we prioritize the production of this model first,” said Yusak.
In addition, Yusak also denied rumors stating that the production of the Mobilio was zero units because HPM was preparing a new generation. The postponement of the production of Honda Mobilio affected the sales of the car so that only one unit was recorded in September, while retail was 127 units.
This causes Mobilio to occupy the lowest position in the Low MPV class which is still dominated by Avanza, selling 7,531 units, and Mitsubishi Xpander with 2,613 units, Daihatsu Xenia with 1,121 units, and Suzuki Ertiga with 963 units.
HPM itself expressed apologies to consumers because they had to wait longer for the unit due to production problems. For Mobilio itself, HPM plans to resume production in October.
