This Year's Game Market In Indonesia Almost Breaks Rp24 Trillion
JAKARTA – The value of the game market industry in Indonesia is reported to be almost Rp. 24.4 trillion. This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan. This number is considered very high for the game market share in the country.
“I think the gaming industry is very important. Yesterday we closed it and this game seems to have a market of almost Rp. 24.4 trillion (for) this year alone," Luhut said as quoted by Antaranews, Wednesday, October 13, 2021.
Although the game market value in Indonesia is relatively large, Luhut explained that around 97 percent of this amount is still contributed by imported games. This encourages the government to reduce imported products and increase national game products so that they can progress economically.
"Yesterday we closed it, we will reduce the bandwidth (import) so that everything is made domestically," explained Luhut.
Previously, Taufiek Bawazier as Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics (ILMATE) Industry of the Ministry of Industry stated that his party had made a number of efforts to increase value in the content industry involving several supporting sectors, including the comic, animation, film industry. , games, music and toys.
Taufiek believes that this is done to build a good content industry ecosystem that can grow. Thus, the game industry will be able to develop as well.
He also explained that he would encourage local developers to maximize existing gaps and opportunities considering the game market in Indonesia is quite large and has great potential.
"Because, in 2020, the Indonesian game market is only dominated by local industries, worth 0.4 percent. This means that there are still high business opportunities for domestic game developers," he added.
