Family Becomes Fire Victims In Abepura Jayapura District, Mother And 2 Children Died, Father Survived After Jumping

PAPUA - A massive fire broke out in the early hours of this morning at around 02.30 WIT, at the Sustenance Shop and Ice Bakery, Jalan Baru Melati, Wai Mhorock Village, Abepura District, Jayapura. Three people were reported dead.

The three victims who died were Nur Alvian (28), a housewife and her two children, namely N (9) and A (1).

Meanwhile, the husband and father of the two victims, Asep (38), who is an employee of Toko Rezeki survived, after jumping out of the 3rd floor into the store's canopy on the 1st floor.

Asep and his family along with several friends live on the third floor of the shop which is one with the Ice Bakery Shop.

Head of Jayapura City Fire Fighting Division Margareta Veronika Kirana at the location admitted that the fire had been extinguished, so all officers were recalled. However, at around 08.30 WIT, the fire suddenly flared up again. Therefore, firefighters assisted by security forces and residents tried to put it out again, and the fire was completely extinguished at around 10.00 WIT.

It was recorded that five units of fire engines were deployed, assisted by two units of water cannon belonging to the Papuan Regional Police and dozens of water tankers that supply water.

Abepura Police Chief AKP Lintong Simanjuntak separately admitted that his members were still conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and the resulting losses.

"It is suspected that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit around the second floor that spread to other floors," said AKP Lintong.
