The Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Is Ready To Help Repatriate Djoko Tjandra, Suspected Of Running To Malaysia

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) is ready to help repatriate the fugitive in the case of transferring the right to collect rights for Bank Bali, Djoko Sugiarto Tjandra, who allegedly fled to Malaysia.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is ready when the legal process involving the Indonesian legal authorities has entered the process of cross-country relations," said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Teuku Faizasyah as quoted by Antara, Thursday, July 23.

However, until now, the information on Djoko Tjandra's whereabouts in Malaysia is only based on the statement of his attorney, so it needs to be confirmed further.

In this case, said Faizasyah, the Indonesian legal authority has more authority to follow up.

"Basically, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is ready to facilitate Indonesian law enforcement in the process of returning Djoko Tjandra to Indonesia through the available legal cooperation," he said.

"We believe that each of our legal authorities has cooperation with the relevant authorities in Malaysia," added Faizasyah.

Djoko Tjandra was sentenced to two years in prison and a fine of Rp. 15 million in 2009 on charges of corruption related to the disbursement of Bank Bali bills through cessie which cost the state Rp904 billion.

However, before being executed, Djoko fled to Papua New Guinea and became a citizen of Papua New Guinea in 2012.

This case came back again after on June 8, 2020, Djoko filed a reconsideration attempt (PK) at the South Jakarta District Court using the DKI Jakarta KTP.

The case of Djoko Tjandra, who is considered free to enter and exit Indonesia despite his fugitive status, is now developing with the involvement of three Polri generals who have now been removed from their posts.
