PBNU Secretary General: Many Elderly Kiai Support Said Aqil Siradj Returning To Head
JAKARTA - The Secretary-General of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board, Helmy Faishal Zaini, revealed that many senior NU Kiai supported Said Aqil Siradj to continue his leadership as PBNU General Chair.
Helmy said the figure of Said Aqil Siradj represented the hope of "kasepuhan" who could continue to maintain the dawuh and traditions of the pesantren Kiai.
NU itself will hold the 34th NU Congress in Lampung in December.
"The figure of KH Said Aqil Siradj by many Kiai Sepuh and NU circles was asked to continue his leadership as the next Chairman of the PBNU at the Lampung Congress in December 2021", Helmy said, Tuesday, October 12.
According to him, a solid NU leader is needed in understanding and inculcating the Islamic ideology of Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah by adhering to the ideology of Pancasila. This sees the challenges of Indonesia and the world is facing global radicalism and terrorism movements.
Helmy said that Kiai Said's leadership had inscribed several important NU legacies. Such as in the fields of education, health, economy, and humanity.
"Such as the establishment of the NU University, the health sector with the establishment of several RSNU, the field of economics and humanitarian philanthropy through ZISWAF through Lazisnu and so on", he said.

Helmy assessed that so far KH Said Aqil has also carried out extraordinary regeneration in the PBNU body. He said, there have been many young NU figures who have filled strategic positions at PBNU for the past five years.
"Several names such as KH. Ahmad Ishomuddin, KH. Abdul Moqsith Ghazali, KH. Marsudi Syuhud, Kiai Afifuddin Dimyathi to Kiai Ahmad Bahauddin Nursalim or Gus Baha fill important positions at PBNU", he explained.
In addition, he added, in the third period later Said Aqil will fill many millennial Kiai to participate in the management of the upcoming PBNU.
"For example, Prof. Nadirsyah Hosen, Gus Baha, Gus Kautsar (Kediri), Gus Miftah, Gus Muwafiq, Gus Salam Shohib (Jombang) & Gus Yusuf Chudlori", said Helmy.
