Wow, West Java Harvests 19 Medals From The Papua PON Rowing Branch: 19 Gold, 7 Silver, And 7 Bronze

JAKARTA - West Java harvested 19 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze medals from the rowing sport of the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) until Monday at 18.00 WIT.

The 19 gold medals came from three different numbers, namely canoeing, rowing, and the traditional boat race. In the canoeing event, West Java managed to collect 7 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze.

Meanwhile, from rowing, this contingent secured 7 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze. The dragon boat numbers have collected 5 gold and 1 bronze.

West Java still has the opportunity to add more medals because there are still three dragon boat numbers to be competed, namely 1,000 meters, 500 meters, and mixed 200 meters.

Although there are still three gold medals up for grabs, West Java has actually confirmed it as the defending champion since the rowing numbers. Even the Papua PON medal collection exceeded the previous PON results which at that time collected 18 gold medals.

West Java rowing manager Alia Meidina could not hide her happiness after West Java became the overall champion of the rowing sport which even surpassed the previous PON achievements.

"Alhamdulillah, this is indeed our target to remain the overall champion, and in 2016 we also became the overall champion. In 2016 we were 18 gold and Alhamdulillah we have exceeded the target, 19 gold," Alia said, as reported by Antara.

According to him, this result is the result of two years of hard work in holding a training camp in Cipule, Karawang. In addition, continuous regeneration is the key for West Java to be able to maintain its champion status.

"We have a long training process, up to two years of practicing. I said not to waste the two-year training process. Today the process has been well proven," he said.
