There Is A Decrease In Public Trust, The KPK Will Make Maximum Corrections

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Nawawi Pomolango responded to the results of a survey which stated that there was a decrease in the level of public trust. According to him, the KPK will make internal corrections so that public trust in anti-graft institutions will increase again.

"Even though the KPK is not in the context of competing with other agencies, we will certainly make maximum corrections so that the public will fully trust the KPK's work. We are aware that the real owners of the KPK are Indonesians," Nawawi was quoted as saying in his written statement, Thursday, July 23.

Furthermore, Nawawi said, the KPK had recorded a number of suggestions from existing survey institutions. Including suggestions for maintaining communication with the public who have been paying attention to the performance of the KPK. "So we consider this survey as the role of the community to protect and love the KPK," he said.

Previously reported, there were two survey institutions, namely Charta Politika and Political Indicators, which recorded that the level of public trust in the Police was higher than that of the KPK.

The Charta Politika survey which was released on Wednesday, July 22 yesterday stated that the level of public confidence in the Police in July reached 72.2 percent. Meanwhile, the level of public trust in the KPK stands at 71.8 percent.

"The National Police is now a little higher than the KPK. I don't know if I want to interpret this as an appreciation or concern," said Charta Politika Executive Director Yunarto Wijaya when releasing the results of his survey online.

However, these results have not been influenced by the case of the fugitive escape from Bank Bali, Djoko Tjandra, who dragged a number of generals in the Bhayangkara Corps. This is because the Charta Politika survey was conducted on July 6-12 before Djoko Tjandra's escape was in the spotlight.

The results of the same survey are also presented by Political Indicators. Through their survey which was held on July 13-16, this institution noted that the public trusted the police more than anti-graft agencies.

Political indicators record the level of confidence in the Police at 75.3 percent. Meanwhile the KPK reached 74.7 percent. This decline is considered to have occurred due to the revision of the KPK Law.
