Here's How To Use Apple's Memoji On Android Phones

JAKARTA – Android phones cannot officially use Apple's 3D Memoji cartoon characters. But now there is a solution that allows it to be done.

Memoji are like a smoother version of the regular emoji but bigger and with a more realistic look, making them similar to something out of a Pixar movie, with character presets ranging from animals to ghosts or robots. Customized characters are possible and provide the most fun of all.

Apple first introduced Memoji in 2018 with the option to personalize the look into a fun version of what it looks like as a video game or animated movie character.

It is also possible to create multiple versions and go beyond caricatures of actual people. For example, blue sports skin and purple hair. There are many accessory items included as well, including hats, clothing, jewelry, and glasses.

Since Memoji are not supported directly on Android, some help will be required from someone with access to an Apple device. Memoji can be created on iPhone, iPad, Mac, MacBook, or Apple Watch. Once one is created, the desired expression can be texted to the Android device and then downloaded individually by tapping and saving.

There's no quick way to get everything, so it's best to be prepared to put in some time for this project. Once all the Memoji expressions are in the gallery, they can then be used in any app that accepts images from the photo gallery which is usually Google Photos. The same solution can also help make Memoji easier to use in some third-party apps, such as WhatsApp.

Various apps have ways to create stickers or save images for easy access, so it takes some exploration to figure out how to streamline finding the right Memoji. With WhatsApp, for example, iPhone users can send individual Memojis to their Android phones to make getting them into the app faster. Then it's just a matter of tapping on it and adding it to favorites for later use.

While there are alternatives, many tend to have very different looks. Maybe Apple will develop a Messages app for Android one day. Seems unlikely, it did bring Apple Music to Android recently and allows FaceTime calls to be merged from Android phones, so it can still happen. However, until then, using Memoji on an Android phone will require more effort and help from someone who has an Apple device.
