Marshanda Said, Don't Admit To Being Bipolar If The Reference Is From Google
JAKARTA – In the Instagram live chat session "Self Awareness for Better Mental Health" from Ms Learning & Grow, actress Marshanda reminded the dangers of self-diagnosing, self-diagnosis, of mental health.
According to Marshanda, self-diagnosing is the current trend. He also explained that it was not very good.
"It's almost like a trend (like being a trend, ed), just read the characteristics on Google and then said 'wow, this is really me', then he announced (tell) his friends that he is bipolar," said Marshanda, quoting Antara, Sunday 10 October.
Marshanda reminded that this should not be done because it could worsen a person's mental health condition.
"Self diagnosis should not be done, it must be done by a professional," he said.
Previously, psychologist from the University of Indonesia Kasandra A. Putranto said self-diagnosing a certain disease or disorder, such as depression, is dangerous because it causes unnecessary worry and if anxiety worsens it can develop an anxiety disorder.
In addition, self-diagnosing can also make a person unable to get the right treatment.
In fact, other problems that can be more serious go undiagnosed because they focus too much on a disease or disorder that is not necessarily suffered.
In a talk with psychologist Caca Tengker, Marshanda said she had been diagnosed with bipolar since the age of about 15 years.
Before the age of 15, Marshanda admitted that his life was fine.
"I started modeling, shooting commercials and fashion shows at the age of five, then when I was 11 I filmed 'Bidadari', I'm a very happy child, I love life, I really like filming, love school," he said.
"One day at the age of 15, I was diagnosed with mental illness from a psychiatrist. What? So far I've been performing at school on filming, I'm happy, then I'm mentally ill? It was shocking," said Marshanda, who had denied her condition for up to four years. after being diagnosed with it.
Until finally she was 17 years old, Marshanda finally decided to get help from professionals to overcome her mental health problems.
"Every plan Allah has given me, He has a big plan, He instills a challenge (challenges) but at the same time (at the same time), gives the courage to share (share), now I see many conversations to talk about mental health (mental health) because everyone must have pressure, have pain (suffering) but the most important thing is," said Marshanda.
