Targeting Military Air Bases, Israeli Missiles Are Successfully Intercepted By Syrian Air Defenses

JAKARTA - Syrian air defenses intercepted an Israeli missile strike over the western Syrian countryside of Homs injuring six soldiers and causing some material damage, official media said on Friday.

The attack took place at around 9:33 p.m. local time. (18:33 GMT), Syria's official news agency quoted a military source. The Israeli military declined to comment.

"Enemies of Israel carried out air strikes from the direction of the Al-Tanf military area with a burst of missiles towards the T-4 military airport in the central region," the source said, adding the air defense system was capable of dropping most of the missiles.

Meanwhile, citing The Jerusalem Post, the base was targeted, as Hezbolalh and Iran have an important military presence there, according to Army Radio.

According to Lebanese reports, most of the Israeli missiles were shot down by Syrian air defenses. The Syrian Army confirmed the attack, adding that six Syrian soldiers were injured by the airstrikes and damage was done to military equipment

Earlier on Friday, unidentified aircraft targeted military sites belonging to Iranian militias in Al Bukamal and Deir ez-Zor, Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported. The fire was reported to have occurred in one location, namely in the vicinity of the hospital.

Al Bukamal, near the country's border with Iraq, is under "a state of alert," according to SOHR, as intense shelling was heard across the city, reportedly an attempt by Iranian militias to target an unidentified aircraft.

In August, four pro-Iranian fighters allied to the Assad regime were killed in suspected Israeli air strikes targeting a Syrian military site in the Qalamoun Mountains, near the capital Damascus.

To note, the IDF previously allegedly attacked the T4 air base in 2019, targeting a warehouse in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps military base and killing five Syrian soldiers in the process.
