JAKARTA - Positive confirmation cases of COVID-19 in the XX Papua PON continues to grow. Spokesman for the Papua COVID-19 Task Force, Silwanus Sumule said that currently there were 57 cases of COVID-19.

"Last night at 22.30 WIT the number of cases was 50 and I just got the information, there were an additional 7 new cases from Merauke. So our total cases for 11.30 Papua time were 57 cases," said Silwanus in the BNPB Indonesia Youtube show, Friday. , October 8th.

However, Silwanus said that all athletes, officials, and the PON organizing committee who were exposed to COVID-19 did not have symptoms. If so, the symptoms experienced are quite mild.

He said the condition of mild symptoms occurred because all participants in the implementation of the Papua PON had been vaccinated against COVID-19.

"All athletes who come to Papua will definitely carry out a second vaccination. What we have been doing so far, what we are doing is a collaborative system from upstream to downstream," he said.

In this regard, Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said that the government is currently preparing a mechanism for the return of all parties participating in the PON Papua event so as not to spread COVID-19. One of them is by doing quarantine.

"Currently the committee is tightening health screening and soon the government will prepare a mechanism for returning event participants, for example quarantine, testing when returning, and so on," said Wiku. to the area of origin.

The government, continued Wiku, has followed up on the findings of COVID-19 cases in athletes competing at the Papua PON in accordance with the guidelines that have been prepared, such as placing quarantine in the facilities provided.

"There are 58 centralized isolation facilities spread across the province of Papua with 11 percent occupancy and 2,027 beds remaining. The local government will continue to monitor the circulation of patients in and out and strive for every patient undergoing isolation to recover," he concluded.
