15 Hectares Of Land In The Lake Toba Area Burnt
MEDAN - The area of forest and land in the hills of the Lake Toba area, in Sianjur Mula Mula Village, Sianjur Mulamula District, Samosir Regency, North Sumatra is on fire.
The Manggala Agni Region Coordinator for North Sumatra and Aceh Provinces, Risky Ismana Nasution, said that as a result of the incident, 15 hectares of community-owned land and protected forests were burned.
"There are no more fires, they are extinguished. We are currently doing a cooling process, or in other words, a mop up is done to ensure that there are no more fires," Risky confirmed, Friday, October 8.
Risky explained, to extinguish the burning land, his party was assisted by KPH, TNI/Polri by combing the entire burned area to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.
In addition, Risky also appealed to the community around the location of the forest and land fires incident not to open or clear land by burning.
"We have also coordinated with the local village head to monitor community agricultural activities that have the potential to burn," said Risky.
The Lake Toba area is land with weeds and shrubs conditions. Therefore, this area is prone to land fires.
"If it is hot, it can burn immediately. For the people around Lake Toba to be careful with the use of the land. By the rules, it is not allowed to open land and manage land by burning. Because one burns, the area is burned," explained Risky.
Moreover, according to Risky, the Lake Toba area is a super priority destination.
"We take care of it together, because the community must take care of it first. Whether it's intentional or unintentional, the element that triggers the fire is humans. We ask for help, help us to take care of it together," said Risky.
