Four Black Women Become Candidates For US Vice President To Accompany Joe Biden

JAKARTA - The Democratic Party's candidate for president of the United States (US), Joe Biden, is considering four of his deputy candidates in the upcoming US elections. The four of them are black women.

"I haven't been able to name anyone (of the potential candidates), but the people I mentioned, and among them were four black women," Biden was quoted as saying by CNN.

Biden and his team claimed to have conducted background checks on the four candidates. "After I have examined all the candidates, then I will narrow down the list and we will look at it. I will also have private discussions with each of the remaining candidates and make decisions," said Biden.

At the start of the year, Biden promised to choose a woman as his representative. He has acquired several names, including Senator Kamala Harris of California, Val Demings of Florida, Mayor of Atlanta Keisha Lance Bottoms, former National Security Advisor Susan Rice and Karen Bass of California.

The debate on the appointment of a vice president has sharpened in recent months within the Democratic Party. The dialectic comes after more than a month of anti-racism protests in the US. Several groups urged Biden to appoint a black woman as his running mate in the 2020 elections.

Biden's consideration in choosing his representative is someone who is always ready and easy to work with him. According to Biden, a close relationship between work partners is the key to the success of the government.

In addition, Biden also said that he did not need a representative who had experience abroad, because that capacity already existed in him. However, he invited these candidates to discuss foreign policy and national defense issues.

Joe Biden said it took about six weeks to prepare his vice president. Finally, the Vice President of President Barack Obama's era will decide who will be his deputy in early August, before the Democratic Party's national congress takes place.
