PKB Asks The Government Not To Be Trapped By Ego And Prestige Regarding The 2024 Election Polling Day
JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR, the National Awakening Party (PKB) Faction, Luqman Hakim, asked the government not to be trapped by ego and prestige regarding the date of the 2024 simultaneous general election. This is because the government proposed a schedule for the 2024 election to be held on May 15
"I invite all parties, especially the government, not to be trapped by ego and prestige because they have already announced May 15, 2024 as voting day," said Luqman, Friday, October 8.
Luqman emphasized that the authority to decide the day and date of the election is in the hands of the General Elections Commission (KPU). Meanwhile, the DPR and the government only provide suggestions and proposals.
"This is clear according to Article 347 of Law No. 7 of 2017," he stressed
The PKB politician believes that the KPU has the ability and practical experience in preparing more mature stages and schedules for the 2024 General Election and Pilkada based on considerations so that each stage of the election can be carried out with quality.
Therefore, he believes that it is better for the KPU to decide on the 2024 Simultaneous Election voting day plan.
"I invite the government, let's support together the KPU plan which has compiled the stages and schedule for the February 21, 2024 Election and the November 27, 2024 Pilkada," concluded Luqman.
The schedule for the 2024 Simultaneous Elections has yet to be decided due to two proposals. The government proposes that the voting be held on May 15, while the KPU is planning for February 21.
In Commission II of the FPR, the Golkar faction, NasDem, Gerindra, PAN clearly supported the implementation of the 15 May elections. Meanwhile, the PDI-P, PKS, and PPP agreed with the KPU's proposal that the general election be held on February 21, 2024.
While the Democrats and PKB fully surrender the readiness of the KPU and the government.
