Earthquake In Bogor 3.5 Magnitude, No Tsunami Potential

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded a tectonic earthquake measuring 3.5 magnitude in Bogor, West Java, Wednesday, July 22. The earthquake which occurred at 14.11 WIB had no potential for a tsunami.

Based on the analysis, the Head of BBMKG Region II South Tangerang, Hendro Nugroho, said that the epicenter of the earthquake was located at the coordinate point of 6.8 south latitude and 106.3 west latitude.

"To be precise, the earthquake was located in Darat, 61 kilometers southwest of Bogor, West Java, at a depth of 10 kilometers," Hendro said in a written statement received by VOI, Wednesday, July 22.

Hendro continued, by paying attention to the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was a type of shallow earthquake due to local local fault activity.

The impact of this earthquake was felt in the Bayah area on the MMI II-III intensity scale, or vibrations were felt by several people, light objects hanging swayed.

Then, the earthquake was also felt in Citorek, Cijaku, Sogong Panggarangan with the MMI III Intensity Scale or the real vibration was felt in the house. The tremors felt as if a truck had passed).

"However, until now there have been no reports of damage to buildings as a result of the earthquake," he explained.

This earthquake is described by the BMKG shock level map (Shakemap) and based on reports from the community. So far, BMKG has monitored no aftershocks activity until 14:38.
