KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri Concerned There Are 22 Governors Involved In Corruption Cases

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri said he was concerned because currently there are 22 governors from 34 provinces in the country who have been caught in corruption cases. In addition, there are hundreds of regents from 542 district/city governments who are entangled in the practice of rasuah.

"The KPK records that the governors have 22 people involved in corruption even though our province is only 34. And 122 regents out of 542 district/city governments are involved in corruption. This number is a concern for all of us," said Firli in a written statement quoted Friday, October 8.

However, the former Deputy for Enforcement of the Corruption Eradication Commission did not explain who the governor was and the corruption cases that ensnared him.

For this reason, Firli considers the strategy to eradicate corruption by integrating three approaches such as education, prevention, and prosecution is appropriate.

Efforts to take action, said Firli, are to provide a temporary deterrent effect for education to prevent corrupt desires and behavior. "As well as improving the system to prevent and close opportunities for corruption," he said.

In addition, Firli also said that his party continues to encourage the improvement of the integrity of state administrators. This is a manifestation of the mandate of the law so that the KPK takes action to prevent corrupt practices.

"Building integrity is one of the efforts to prevent corruption by providing anti-corruption understanding to state officials in government, State/Regional Owned Enterprises, the private sector, to the entire education network," he concluded.
