Telkomsel And BAKTI Kominfo Target 7,772 USO 4G/LTE BTS To Be Completed By 2022

JAKARTA - Telkomsel together with the Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI) will soon deploy BTS Universal Service Obligation (USO) 4G/LTE infrastructure in 3T areas, which have not yet had access to broadband telecommunications networks.

This cooperation in the Disadvantaged, Frontier and Outermost (3T) areas has been stated in the Letter of Determination Number 827/KOMINFO/BAKTI.31/KS.1/10/202.

"We will continue to provide even distribution of broadband network access in Indonesia to ensure that every community, whether in urban areas, rural areas, to 3T areas, is continuously connected," said Telkomsel President Director Hendri Mulya Syam in a statement quoted by VOI, Thursday, October 7.

A total of 7,772 USO 4G/LTE BTS built in the 3T region are targeted to be completed by the end of 2022. With details on the allocation of Area 2 (Nusa Tenggara), Area 3 (Kalimantan), Area 4 (Sulawesi), Area 5 (Maluku) Area 6 (Papua) West), Area 7 West Central Papua), Area 8 (North Central Papua), and Area 9 (South East Papua).

Meanwhile, not only Telkomsel, XL Axiata will also participate in organizing 7,772 USO 4G/LTE BTS in Area 1 (Sumatra). This number fulfills 9,113 villages or sub-districts that are included in the category of 3T areas that have not been reached by 4G signals.

A number of 1,209 villages or wards have previously built BTS with 2G technology which has been upgraded to 4G technology. So far, Telkomsel and BAKTI have deployed 1,158 USO BTS, all of which have been connected to the leading 4G/LTE broadband network technology.

"We believe that with the increasing number of USO 4G/LTE BTS construction in the 3T region, and providers of mobile devices and digital-based applications, (can) together build an inclusive digital lifestyle ecosystem throughout the 3T region, in order to optimize the various potentials of all regions in order grow the digital economy through the use of appropriate technology," said Hendri.
