Deadlocked Election Day For Election 2024, Gerindra Agrees President Jokowi To Meet With The Chief Of Political Parties
JAKARTA - Commission II of the House of Representatives together with the Government represented by the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) and the General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia postponed the decision to determine the schedule for the 2024 General Election.
Until now, there are still differences between the government's proposals for voting to be held on May 15. Meanwhile, the Indonesian KPU proposed date of February 21.
In the government's proposal, only four factions stated that they supported and had no problem with the government's proposal. The four are the Golkar Party Faction, the Nasdem Faction, the Gerindra Faction, and the PAN Faction.
Meanwhile, the PDI-P faction, the PPP faction, the PKS faction, the PKB faction, and the Democrats faction expressed their objections and signaled their support for the KPU's proposal.
In this regard, the Gerindra Party agreed that President Joko Widodo should meet with the general chairman of political parties to find a middle way to determine the voting date for the 2024 Simultaneous Election.
"I agree, it is a wise and good step so that there is dialogue and interaction", said Gerindra Party Secretary-General Ahmad Muzani at the House of Representatives Building, Thursday, October 7.
The Deputy Chairperson of the People's Consultative Assembly views that there are still many political parties that are against the government's proposal, which is a natural thing in a democracy.
"I think it's part of democracy that develops in decision-making in Parliament", he said.

However, the chairman of the Gerindra faction hopes that there will be a consensus from the results of the deliberation in determining the voting date. So, he said, the issue of the voting day was not resolved by a voting mechanism.
"Because we must continue to uphold the mutual deliberation and cooperation in decision making and as much as possible it is done and strived for", he explained.
