A Blue Whale Stranded And Dead On The Coast Of Kupang

JAKARTA - The Kupang National Water Conservation Area (BKKPN) reported that a blue whale washed ashore and died on the coast of Nunhila, Kupang City, the capital of East Nusa Tenggara.

"The pope is estimated to be in his 70s, and his death is not yet known because no injuries were found on the whale's body," Head of BKKPN Kupang Ikram Sangadji told reporters in Kupang, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, July 22.

From Antara's observation, strandings and the death of whales on the coast of Nunhila, are estimated to be on Tuesday, July 21, at around 17.00 WITA. This whale became a spectacle for residents and resulted in traffic jams along the 5 kilometers as many residents stopped by the side of the road.

The residents not only watched the whales from the side of the road, some residents also came down to the beach to watch closely and capture the moment, because the sea water was low tide at that time.

Ikram said the stranded and dead blue whale was a rare whale and was protected by law so that no one could cut it to get its meat.

His party has taken measurements and from the results of these measurements it is known that the length of the blue whale reaches 20 meters while its belly circumference reaches 12 meters.

Ikram added that the whale was still on the sea coast and difficult to evacuate because the sea was in low tide.

"We can't evacuate tonight, so tomorrow it will be evacuated to wait for the tide. So it is possible that around 10:00 am I will be evacuated to the coast," he said.

The joint team, he said, would also cut open the blue whale's stomach to check whether there was trash in its stomach or not.
