KPK Is Ready To Participate In The Joint Investigation Of The Djoko Tjandra Escape Case, As Long As The Evidence Is Concrete, Not An Assumption
JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is ready to conduct an investigation regarding the alleged corruption in the escape process of Djoko Tjandra who is a fugitive in the Bank Bali cessie case. However, Acting KPK spokesperson for prosecution Ali Fikri said that the investigations carried out by the KPK should not be based on assumptions, but concrete evidence.
"The basis for the KPK as law enforcer in handling cases is that there is concrete evidence, not just assumptions without clear data," Ali said in his written statement, Tuesday, July 21.
He said that even if there were reports from the public regarding the alleged bribery related to Djoko Tjandra's escape, the KPK would not immediately carry out an investigation. This anti-corruption agency, said Ali, would first verify whether the case was suspected of being a criminal act of corruption.
"If it is included in corruption, is it also the area of the KPK's authority because it must be understood that the KPK has a limit of authority as Article 11 of the Corruption Eradication Commission Law, meaning that not all Corruption Corruption cases have the authority to resolve them either by the KPK itself or through joint investigation," he said.
Even so, Ali considered that there were more important things to be able to solve the Djoko Tjandra escape scandal. One of them is strengthening coordination between law enforcers.
Moreover, in trying to escape, this high-profile fugitive succeeded in making an electronic KTP, registering a judicial review (PK) at the South Jakarta District Court, and being able to get the Police to issue a pass for him.
"We see that the most important thing is to encourage coordination between institutions and law enforcement which should be strengthened. For example, between the authorities in issuing documents of population administration, immigration and people crossing, or with the authorities in charge of pursuing and searching for people," he said.
It is known that the Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI, Ahmad Sahroni, asked the National Police to involve the KPK in uncovering the case of Djoko Tjandra's escape, which dragged many parties.
He considered that a joint investigation should be possible. Given the element of corruption in the escape process is quite clear. "There are clear indications of corruption in this case," Sahroni told reporters, Tuesday, July 21.
"So I encourage the disclosure of actors who helped make Djoko Tjandra's path to escape not only the police, the prosecutor's office, and the Directorate General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights but also the KPK should be involved," he added.
With the involvement of the KPK in this case, Sahroni assessed that the KPK could investigate the possibility of corruption committed by the same person in other legal institutions.
"So let it be clear. The KPK should be involved so that everything is clear. It is not only a matter of helping to escape but also investigating the amount of potential state loss due to this incident. That's why all processes need to be supervised by the KPK," he concluded.
