Government Sets Eid Al-Adha 1441 Hijri To Fall On Friday 31 July
JAKARTA - The government, through the Ministry of Religion, determined the Iduladha 1441 Hijriah to fall on Friday, 31 July 2020. This decision was conveyed directly by the Minister of Religion Fachrul Razi after leading the Isbat Awal Zulhijah Session.
"By consensus. It is stated that Eid al-Adha 10 Zulhijah 1441 Hijriah falls on Friday, July 31, 2020," said Minister of Religion Fachrul Razi in his press statement, Tuesday, July 21.
Fachrul explained, this decision was taken after considering the results of the reckoning the position of the hilal and the rukyatul hilal report. Where more than twelve observers said they saw the hilal and had been sworn in.
"This Rukyatul Hilal confirms the results of the reckoning that the hilal throughout Indonesia is above the horizon, between 6 degrees 51 minutes to 8 degrees 42 minutes," he added.
The session combined with online conference facilities was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council, KH Muhyiddin Junaidi, Chairman of Commission VIII Yandri Susanto, Deputy Minister of Religion Zainut Tauhid Sa'adi and Director General of Islamic Guidance and Guidance, Kamaruddin Amin.
The meeting was also attended by a number of elements through an online application such as representatives of Islamic organizations, BMKG, ambassadors from friendly countries and other invited guests.
Previously, member of the Falakiyah Team of the Ministry of Religion Cecep Nurwendaya said that the initial hilal of Zulhijjah 1441 H on Tuesday had met the criteria for visibility of the new moon set by the Minister of Religion of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore (MABIMS), namely a minimum height of two degrees and a minimum elongation of the moon to the sun three degrees or a minimum age of eight hours.
"So there is a reference that the initial hilal of Zulhijjah 1441 H on Tuesday, 21 July 2020 was observed from Indonesian territory," he said.
Cecep said that the Ministry of Religion uses two methods to determine the Islamic calendar, namely hisab (astronomical calculations) and rukyat (seeing the moon directly).
He said hisab was informative while rukyat was confirmative. The determination or isbat is a combination of the confirmation of the results of rukyat and the information on the results of the reckoning contained in the 2020 Indonesian Standard Taqwim.
