Researchers Give 5,000 Tree ID Cards At Bogor Botanical Gardens

BOGOR - Researchers from the National Research and Innovation Agency in collaboration with PT Mitra Natura Raya (MNR) innovate in providing digital identity for 5,000 plants called Tree KTPs.

Head of Conservation MNR Junaedi said the naming of trees that are connected directly to the Bogor Botanical Gardens website digitally using a QR barcode is targeted to grow to 15,000 trees.

With a tree ID card, visitors can get information ranging from plant names, species, families, to plant benefits.

"Thousands of tree ID cards were initiated to make it easier for visitors to know the information on the trees they saw, the data is not us, but from BRIN, we provide the innovations," he said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, October 6.

Junaedi said that in identifying these plants, MNR was assisted by five researchers who eventually produced a tree ID card.

The digital identity serves to make it easier for visitors to see and read detailed plant information.

Compared to the previous ones, which were only written using paint on the nameplate, the Tree KTP was divided into red for plants from hot or dry areas, blue for aquatic plant species, and white for humid areas.

"In the future, we will develop the color according to the origin and type of tree," said Jaenal.
