Mendes: Measurement Of Extreme Poor Refers To The World Bank
JAKARTA - Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration (Mendes PDTT) Abdul Halim Iskandar conveyed that the measurement of the extreme poor refers to the World Bank's Parity Purchasing Power (PPP) measurement.
"Referring to the global measurement by the World Bank, income is below PPP 1.99 US dollars per capita per day, or around Rp. 12,000 per capita per day)," Abdul Halim said at an online press conference with the theme "Zero Percent of Extreme Poverty in Villages. in 2024" in Jakarta quoted by Antara, Wednesday, October 6.
Mendes added that the PPP value is equivalent to income below 80 percent of the rural poverty line in each district or city in Indonesia.
Abdul Halim hopes that the eradication of extreme poverty in villages can be faster than the target, namely by 2024.
In the first phase, Mendes said, the achievement of eliminating the extreme poor is targeted at 8,264 villages in 35 districts by 2021/2022.
In the second phase, he continued, as many as 29,632 villages in 138 regencies/cities are targeted to be eradicated from extreme poverty by 2022. Then in the third phase, extreme poverty is eradicated in 37,523 villages in 261 regencies/cities by 2023.
"And in 2024, completing villages that are not yet zero in extreme poverty, and monitoring," he explained.
The Mendes also said, in order to eradicate extreme poverty in villages, the Ministry of Villages PDTT has made efforts to update the Village SDGs data including data on residents' income.

Gus Halim explained, there are four strategies for handling the extreme poor, first, eliminating extreme poverty to zero percent is carried out at the village level based on micro data (bottom up).
Second, the subject of handling residents refers to "One Name One Address" (by name by address), then the action is through a census approach, so that it can target all residents (no one left behind).
Third, the alleviation of extreme poverty at the village level is carried out in a one-time manner within the specified time limit.
And fourth, follow-up actions can be proposed through the Welfare Posyandu which is developed in extreme poverty pockets.
