Two Companies Allegedly Involved In Migrant Worker Smuggling

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) submitted a case file handling the non-procedural departure of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) to Bareskrim Polri.

The file of the case is the result of examination of 19 PMI people who will be departed illegally. They were previously secured, at the Bogor Icon Apartment, on Friday, July 17, 2020, evening.

The head of BP2MI, Benny Rhamdani said, the dozens of people were victims of the criminal act of trafficking in persons (TPPO) committed by two companies, namely PT Duta Buana Bahari and PT Nadies Citra Mandiri.

Based on a temporary investigation, PT Duta Buana Bahari only has a license as a skills training institution (LPK). Meanwhile, PT Nadies Citra Mandiri has a license as a travel company. But in this case, the two companies actually act as agents of migrant workers.

"The two companies are not companies that have permits to recruit and place Indonesian migrant workers, which should be the permit of every Indonesian Migrant Worker Placement Company (P3MI)," Benny said at the Police Headquarters, Tuesday, July 21.

In fact, based on the information obtained, the dozens of victims were required to pay Rp25 million before being sent to Thailand. In addition, they were promised to work in hospitality and the rest as admin or as marketing.

The violations committed were not only related to permits. This is because there was an error in the work contract. They were only given a three month contract. In fact, if you refer to the applicable regulations, the minimum work contract is two years

"The work placement is only valid for three months, July to September. Even though the job placement is a minimum of two years," said Benny.

On the same occasion, the Head of Penum Polri, Kombes Ahmad Ramadhan, said that investigators would study and examine the files submitted by BP2MI. Later, if a criminal element is found, of course the legal process will be enforced.

"It will be studied first and if it fulfills the elements of a criminal act it will be followed up to reveal the networks," said Ahmad.
