Erick Tohir Is Shy About The 2024 Presidential Election, Even Though He Is Considered To Be Seeking Public Attention

JAKARTA - SOE Minister Erick Tohir has been in the public spotlight recently. Erick looks more active on social media, from performance to life interactions.

Some time ago, Erick immediately went to the community by checking the stock of medicines at Kimia Farma pharmacies in the Depok area. Recently, what's interesting is that Erick gave millennials the opportunity to replace his position as minister even for one day.

In the Indonesia Political Opinion (IPO) survey last August, Erick Tohir's electability also increased. Compared to the April survey, Eric's electability jumped sharply from 0.2 percent to 4.7 percent, approaching West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil.

However, the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir dodged when asked about the opportunity to enliven the 2024 presidential election. "I don't think about that and 2024 is still a long time away," Erick said after delivering the Workshop material at the PAN DPP event in Bali, Tuesday, 5 October. "I think this is the context in which we both agree. Today, the people are still having problems with their health, the economy. We are more focused on that. The important thing is to focus on work and we make sure our economy gets up again," he continued.

In fact, Political Communications Observer from Esa Unggul University Jakarta, Jamiluddin Ritonga, sees that there are indications that Erick Tohir has inflated his name to get public attention.

"There are indications that Erick Tohir has inflated his name. It is true that he has recently started using social media," Jamiluddin told VOI, Tuesday, October 5.

However, he continued, Erick's steps were somewhat different from that of the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, who tends to convey his work progress using social media. Meanwhile, Erick Tohir, did not raise the issue of his work on social media, but rather showed social activities outside of work

"In the context of political communication, this is an effort to introduce himself further to a wider audience. The method is more subtle, because he is currently bound to be an assistant to the president. criticism from several people or parties," explained Jamiluddin.

"So indeed what Erick Tohir did is also like what other ministers did. Trying to make a fortune, who knows that indirect inducement gets sympathy from the public," he continued.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of Indonesia Political Opinion (IPO), Dedi Kurnia Syah, assessed that Erick really wanted to taste the 2024 presidential election contestation, so he tried to get the public's attention.

"All names that are popular, especially those that are strategic in the government, I have confidence that they will definitely have the desire to participate in the 2024 presidential election," said Dedi Kurnia to VOI, Tuesday, October 5.

"The problem is whether the opportunity is welcomed by the continuation of the political party or not?" he continued.

According to Dedi, in terms of character, Erick Tohir is quite good. In terms of popularity too, he said, easy to build.

"In the ministry today, Erick Tohir occupies a fairly good position with Tito Karnavian. From the standpoint of non-cadre political parties in the cabinet, but from the sustainability perspective, Erick Tohir is still quite far away considering that all political parties that have the opportunity to carry the same prominent figure, "explained Dedi. "So now we can see that there are political maneuvers starting from the ministerial program one day, including Erick Tohir going down to the fields and even greeting residents in the midst of his performance activities, even though it is not directly related to the SOE ministry or in Erick Tohir's workspace. ," he added.

It is undeniable, said Dedi, that Erick Tohir is indeed trying to build a political image that he as a professional minister is ready to become a politician. "No matter how small the effort is, it leads to building a political reputation as well as a political image that Erick Tohir is no longer a professional minister, but he is a minister who tries to become a politician at the same time even without political parties," he explained.
