ACEH - The public prosecutor of the East Aceh District Attorney's Office received the delegation of case files along with the suspect and evidence of the crime of killing an elephant from the local resort police investigator.
"The five suspects have been handed over to police investigators. This case has entered phase two," said Head of the General Crime Section of the East Aceh District Attorney, Ivan N Alavi in East Aceh, Antara, Tuesday, October 5.
The five suspects in the elephant murder who were found without a head were the initials JN (35), EM (41), SN (33), JF (50) and (RN).
Together with the surrender of the suspect, the police investigators also handed over a number of evidence (barbuk) such as ivory from the crime and the tools used.
"For the trial process, the public prosecutor's team will immediately transfer the case to the Idi District Court next week," said Alavi.
The suspects were charged with violating Article 21 Paragraph (2) letter a of Law Number 5/1990 concerning the Conservation of Biological Natural Resources with a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a fine of Rp. 100 million.
Previously, the carcass of a male Sumatran elephant was found without a head in the PT Bumi Flora area in Jambo Reuhat Village, Banda Alam, East Aceh, last Sunday, July 11.
From the results of the investigation, the East Aceh Police arrested five perpetrators. The involvement of the perpetrators includes being the executor or the one who kills and cuts off the elephant's head. And buyers of protected animal ivory.
