Agree That Simultaneous Elections Will Be Held On May 15, 2024, Golkar Hopes KPU Will Take A Decision Soon

JAKARTA - Secretary General of the Golkar Party, Lodewijk F. Paulus, stated that his party agreed with the government that proposed holding Simultaneous Elections to be held on May 15, 2024.

Golkar, according to Lodewijk, has carried out a number of simulations related to the voting for the legislative and presidential elections on that date.

"Golkar has simulated it, so we agreed on May 15," said Lodewijk at the DPR building, Tuesday, October 5.

He believes that Commission II of the DPR can carry out political lobbying with the KPU and the government. Therefore, the Deputy Chair of the DPR for the field of Korpolkam hopes that the KPU will immediately make a decision regarding the schedule for the 2024 Simultaneous Elections.

He also hoped that the election organizers would be in line with the government's proposal.

"It is hoped that there will be an agreement from the government's proposal on May 15 as the day of voting for the general election, namely for the presidential and legislative elections later," said Lodewijk.

Previously, the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, suggested that the elections for the legislative and presidential elections or the 2024 elections be held in April or May for security reasons. Meanwhile, the KPU proposed February 21, 2024.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD assessed that the proposed 2024 Simultaneous Election date proposed by the KPU on February 21, 2024 was ineffective. Because, on that date many processes are too long, both backwards and forwards.

Therefore, Mahfud assesses that the right time to hold the 2024 general election is May 15. According to him, the date is very rational to be submitted to the KPU and DPR.

"So that May is the right one. May 15 is very rational according to the government. But later we will hear what the KPU and DPR look like," said Mahfud.
