DKI Jakarta Athlete Complain About The Hot Papua National Sports Week Badminton Arena

JAKARTA - A badminton athlete from DKI Jakarta, Ruselli Hartawan, complained that the 2021 Papua National Sports Week (PON) badminton arena at Waringin Sports Center, Jayapura City was hot.

Ruselli, who is an athlete resident of the Badminton Association of Indonesia national training camp ( PBSI Pelatnas) who subscribes to the international tournament, admitted that he had to prepare an ice bag or cold compress to reduce hot body temperatures during the match.

“I have started training (at GOR Waringin) on October 3rd. The (condition) is quite hot and drains sweat as well, but the atmosphere is okay," Ruselli told Antara in Jayapura, Tuesday.

“Maybe have to use an ice bag in the field to reduce the heat,” he added.

The Technical Delegate for the Papua PON badminton branch, Mimi Irawan, admitted that the air conditioning (AC) in the Wairingin Sports Hall really needed to be repaired.

“Waringin Sports Center (GOR) is already good, the stands are also okay. But the AC is not cold enough. Later, it is necessary to install glass wool on top so that it absorbs hot air from outside because Papua is very hot, so the roof must be overcome so as not to waste air conditioning," said Mimi.

"Everything else is okay because after all, the field must have air conditioning," she said again.

The Papua PON badminton competition was participated by 20 provinces to compete for seven gold medals from the men's and women's team numbers, men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles.

The team events will take place on October 5-9, while the individual events will take place on October 10-13.
