JAKARTA - The cabinet reshuffle strengthened again after the National Mandate Party (PAN) entered the coalition supporting the government. Later, it was rumored that PAN would replace the position of Minister of Education and Culture, Research and Technology, Nadiem Makarim.
Political communication observer at Esa Unggul University, M. Jamiluddin Ritonga, assessed that if the reshuffle was merely to accommodate PAN into the cabinet, it should not be necessary. Because according to him, it will not improve the performance of President Jokowi's cabinet.
It is even possible that a reshuffle which is only to accommodate PAN could shake the solidity of the coalition party supporting the government.
"Among coalition parties may be disappointed with the entry of PAN into the cabinet. PAN that does not sweat is considered unfair to be included in the cabinet," said Jamiluddin in his statement to VOI, Tuesday, October 5. In addition, he continued, volunteers who feel meritorious will also be disappointed if PAN enters the cabinet. Meanwhile, the sweaty volunteers were never accommodated in the cabinet.
In fact, said Jamiluddin, ideally the reshuffle was carried out to improve the cabinet's performance. Ministers who were judged to be underperforming and often noisy were replaced with people who were expected to boost the cabinet's performance. "This is difficult to fulfill if the reshuffle is only to accommodate PAN or volunteers who are considered instrumental in bringing Jokowi to become president. No matter how many reshuffles, of course the cabinet's performance will never improve," he said. So, according to Jamiluddin, if you want to improve the performance of the cabinet, Jokowi should dare to be more independent in carrying out the reshuffle. Jokowi, he said, must be free from the influence of the coalition party supporting the government.
"Including (PDIP Chairperson) Megawati Soekarnoputri, in replacing ministers who are indeed underperforming and often make noise," he said. and have high empathy for the people.
"These are people who in Jokowi's terms are not ordinary people. Only choosing the right people, the cabinet reshuffle will be beneficial for the people. Otherwise, the cabinet reshuffle is just a routine activity to share power among the political elite. This is certainly very painful for the people. who want a better life," he concluded.
