Police: Attack On Dekai Church And Clashes Over The Death Of Abock Busup

JAKARTA - The National Police stated that the issue of the cause of Abock Busup's death was the trigger for clashes between two ethnic groups in Yahukimo, Papua. Because the former Yahukimo Regent is said to have died due to violence or not a crime.

"This was rumored there, rumors were spread about clashes or attacks on the GIDI Dekai Church because of the death of Abock Busup's brother," said Karo Penmas of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Brigadier General Rusdi Hartono to reporters, Monday, October 4.

Based on the information, said Rusdi, the issues circulating started from victims of violence or other things. In fact, from the results of the temporary investigation, there is no criminal element behind the death of Abock Busup.

"There may be rumors that it is not true that his death was due to something unnatural. Maybe something like that developed there. Therefore, we need to explain why Abock Busup died at the Grand Mercure hotel," said Rusdi.

However, Rusdi said that the Papuan Police are currently investigating the cause of the unrest between the two tribes. Interim results, one of the tribes that carried out the attack has been detected.

"It is being investigated. Now the groups that carried out the attack have been identified by the Papua Regional Police and are working on this case," said Rusdi.

As previously reported, an attack on one of the tribes in Papua broke out on Sunday, October 3.

The Yali people were attacked by the Kimyal Tribe using arrows and machetes. The attack was led by the head of the Kimyal tribe, Morome Keya Busup.

The Head of Public Relations of the Papuan Police, Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, said that the Kimyal troops came to Yali using 2 mini buses. In the attack 6 people died, 41 were injured.

"The injured are still receiving medical treatment at Yahukimo Hospital," said Kamal.
