Because Of A Kite, A Power Station Exploded In Bali

JAKARTA - Electrical substations in the area of PT. Indonesia Power exploded and caught fire Sunday, 19 July. The cause was a kite that broke off and fell right at the Bus Bar 150 kV at the Pesanggaran Substation (GI).

Reported by Antara, Tuesday, July 21, Denpasar Police arrested a kite owner named Dewa Ketut Sunatdiya (50), who caused an electrical substation in the area of PT. Indonesia Power, exploded and caught fire.

"The suspect raised the kite and left the kite not under surveillance, so because of his fault (his negligence) it caused the kite to break, then fell at the scene of the crime and caused one of the substations at the scene to explode and catch fire," said Denpasar Police Chief Kombes Pol Jansen Avitus Panjaitan.

He said, when the incident started on Sunday, July 19 2020 at around 15.00 WITA, the perpetrator along with his adopted son flew a bebean type kite on an empty land near his house. The location is located at Jalan Pelabuhan Benoa Gang Raja Wali No. 10 X Pesanggaran, South Denpasar District.

After the kite is flown with a rope length of approximately 150 meters, then the actors tie the kite rope on the singapur tree. After that, the perpetrator left the kite and went home.

"So at 16:24 WITA, there was a power failure which resulted in the outage of PLN customers in the areas of Kuta, South Denpasar and East Denpasar, with a total of 71,121 customers," he explained.

Jansen explained that the cause of the disturbance was because a large kite fell right on the Bus Bar 150 kV at the Pesanggaran Substation (GI), which resulted in the outage of three transformer substations and a gas generator in Pesanggaran.

Meanwhile, VVIP areas such as airports are not affected because the automation system is working properly so that it can be directly supplied from backup feeders.

From the PT. Indonesia Power approached the perpetrators at around 19.00 WITA. When the perpetrator was at home, an officer from PT. Indonesia Power, who explained the incident.

For his actions, the suspect is suspected under Article 188 of the KUHP, Sub-Article 409 of the Criminal Code, (1) with a maximum imprisonment of five years, sub-sentence of one month imprisonment.

"Any person who by mistake causes a fire, explosion or flood which causes danger to persons and subsidiary goods, who by mistake or negligence causes damage or makes railroad buildings, telegraph wires, telephones or electricity, gas pipes, water pipes or sewers that are used for public purposes, "he explained.
