Joss! RI Startup Reaches IDR 52 Trillion Investment In 6 Months, J&T And Bukalapak Are The Most 'Greedy'
JAKARTA - A total of 104 Indonesian startups successfully obtained funding of US$3.8 billion or equivalent to Rp52.2 trillion (exchange rate of Rp14,268) during the first semester of 2021. This is the result of research reported by PR Scale.
In his explanation, it was stated that the record in the first six months of this year rose 91 percent compared to the same period in 2020 with 2 billion US dollars. Even so, when compared to the first semester of 2019, which was 1.2 billion, this year's achievement grew 219 percent.
In detail, the financial technology (fintech), logistics, and e-commerce sectors are the three mainstay sectors and are the most sought after by investors. This can be seen from the large number of startups and funding flowing in the sector.
"The logistics company J&T Express managed to secure a jumbo funding of around US$2 billion in April 2021," said PR Scale's report quoted Monday, October 4.
The logistics company founded by former OPPO officials was named the first unicorn from Indonesia in 2021.
Other logistics sectors that received high funding were SiCepat Ekspres with US$150 million and Shipper with US$65 million.
“The second largest funding was obtained by Bukalapak. Before stepping into a public company, Bukalapak has pocketed funding of 234 million US dollars from global giant Microsoft, endowment company GIC, Emtek Group, BRI Ventures, and Mandiri Capital Indonesia, "explained PR Scale.
Meanwhile, the fintech sector dominates the number of startups that receive funding. At least 30 business entities obtained funding with a total of 648.28 million US dollars.
Two investment platforms are at the top of funding in the fintech sector, namely Bibit and Ajaib, with US$95 million and US$90 million, respectively.
Meanwhile, Xendit, the fintech that supports payment infrastructure, also secured US$64.6 million in funding for its Series B round in the first quarter of this year.
Then, in the second quarter of 2021, investors are also looking at the e-commerce sector in Indonesia, where this sector received a total funding of nearly 600 million US dollars, or became the highest among other sectors.
In addition to Bukalapak, the agritech platform Tanihub received fresh funding of USD 65.5 million in the Series B round and the beautycare marketplace Sociolla received funding of USD 56.5 million.
