In The Midst Of Declining Public Trust, Only Sabam Sirait Believes That Politics Is Sacred
JAKARTA - The family handed over the body of Sabam Sirait to the DPD RI leadership. The handover took place at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Sunday, October 3.
Son-in-law of Sabam Sirait, Putra Nababan apologized for the late arrival of the body. This is because many families still want to visit Sabam Sirait.
"We, on behalf of the family, hereby hand over the body of Mr. Sabam Sirait to the leadership of the DPD RI to be buried in the Nusantara Building for the MPR/DPR/DPD RI," said Putra Nababan.
After that, Putra Nababan had time to tell a little about his in-laws in public.
“Pak Sabam Sirait, throughout his career, has excelled in upholding these three institutions at once. In the midst of low public trust in politics, Pak Sabam dares to say that politics is sacred,” he continued.
"I testify that Pak Sabam dares to speak the truth even under pressure from the regime," he said.
"On behalf of the family, we express our deepest apologies for any mistakes and shortcomings that the deceased had while carrying out his duties as representatives of the people," he said again.
Deputy Chairman of the DPD RI Mahyudin also acted as inspector of the funeral ceremony for Sabam Sirait's body at the Parliament Complex.
"We, on behalf of the leadership of the DPD RI, hereby accept the body of the late Mr. Sabam Sirait for further burial in the Nusantara MPR/DPR/DPD RI building," said Mahyudin when receiving the body. Sabam Sirait died on September 29, 2021 at the age of 85.
