Gerindra Agrees With The Government's Proposal For An Election To Be Held May 15, 2024
JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives from the Gerindra faction, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, agrees with the government's suggestion that the 2024 General Election will be held on May 15.
"After going through various considerations and in-depth studies, we support the government's proposal regarding the timing of the election on May 15," Dasco said in his statement, Sunday, October 3.
Dasco believes that Gerindra's support for the May 15 General Election will make the simultaneous political contestation more effective and efficient.
"I think, in principle like this, the 2024 election must run effectively and efficiently, meaning that all stages of the election must be ensured to go well," said Dasco.
Even so, Dasco said that the budget needs also need to be considered, given the limited portion of the state budget for elections.
"So, if the voting for the General Election on May 15, 2024 is agreed, then the implementation of campaign times for both Pilleg and Regional Head Elections is relatively short. So it is hoped that the election needs can be more efficient and not burden the state budget too much," he said.
Previously, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD said the government proposed that the 2024 General Election be held on May 15, 2024.
"The government's choice is May 15," said Mahfud.
This was based on the results of an internal meeting attended by President Joko Widodo and Vice President KH Ma'ruf Amin, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Cabinet Minister Pramono Anung, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani, TNI Commander Marshal TNI Hadi Tjahjanto, National Police Chief Gen. Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Head of BIN Budi Gunawan.
