Fadjroel Rachman Calls The New Capital A Symbol Of Progressive Transformation, Not Just Moving
JAKARTA - The government has submitted a presidential letter and a draft of the National Capital City Bill (RUU IKN) to the House of Representatives (DPR).
Presidential spokesman, Fadjroel Rachman, said moving the new capital city to East Kalimantan was not just a move, but a symbol of progressive transformation to realize an Indonesia-centric and advanced Indonesia.
"Progressive transformation from old habits into new habits based on Indonesia-centric principles (equal distribution of development throughout Indonesia), environmental protection in the face of climate change, new qualities of governance, and progressive and comprehensive transformation of social, economic and cultural life", said Fadjroel to reporters, Friday, October 1.
He said President Joko Widodo did not want the capital city move to be merely a change of government. However, it focuses more on a transformation, changing ways of working, changing work cultures, changing work systems, and also changing economic bases.
"Cultivating an advanced Indonesian habitus is the main principle of IKN transfer in President Joko Widodo's view", said Fadjroel.
Previously, the government had submitted a presidential letter and a draft of the National Capital City Bill (RUU IKN) to the House of Representatives (DPR).
The Presidential Decree and the draft RUU IKN were handed over by Minister of State Secretary, Pratikno, and Minister of National Development Planning/Head of National Development Planning Agency, Suharso Monoarfa, to the leadership of the DPR at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, September 29, afternoon.
Minister of State Secretary, Pratikno, said the new capital city should not only be a government office, but a new city that becomes a magnet for great talents and will become a catalyst for Indonesia's progress.
"So we want to build a center for sustainable innovation and become a source of inspiration and at the same time a motor for Indonesia's future progress. Well, that aspiration may be more than just the capital city", said Pratikno.
