COVID-19 Pandemic Campaign Central Only 50 People Can Follow

JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian emphasized that the 2020 Pilkada campaign in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic can only bring together a crowd of 50 people. If there are candidates for regional heads who violate them, Bawaslu will take firm action against them.

"I have conveyed it to the Director General of Polpum and the Director General of Otda to the KPU, just be clear. The general meeting should not be more than 50 people. If someone cannot control more than 50 people, Bawaslu will directly control it once or twice if necessary three times. , disqualification, "said Tito as quoted from his written statement, Monday, July 20.

Even so, the former National Police Chief asked law enforcement officials, namely the TNI and Polri to remain observant in observing conditions in the field during the campaign.

Because, it is not impossible that the crowd was deliberately infiltrated by the opposing pair of candidates or other parties with the aim of disturbing security.

"If it is infiltrated to disturb him so that he will be hit by a syringe, his political volunteers can also arrest this who is disturbing it," he said.

He asked for confirmation of KPU rules so that supporters of regional head candidates must follow health protocols such as the use of masks, face shields, protective clothing and others.

Tito hopes that the pilkada participants can change their campaign tools into masks or hand sanitizers with their serial numbers in the upcoming 2020 Pilkada. Thus, the distribution of masks and hand sanitizers in the community is increasingly massive to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

"If one contestant distributes 100 thousand masks, I have counted it means 54 million masks. This is extraordinary. That is the hand sanitizer he also divides, for example 50 thousand, this is distributed, 2 main tools," he said.

Furthermore, Tito asked the public to choose a regional head candidate who is sincere and has the ability to handle the COVID-19 pandemic in the area.

In addition, the community must choose an area that is able to make a strategy to revive the economy and resolve the social impacts of the pandemic. Because, don't let those who are elected during the 2020 Pilkada are those who do not have the ability.

"Especially if you do not have sufficient capabilities and do not have a conceptual strategy for handling. After that, you no longer want to handle it, it will fall apart. Surely the conflict will widen everywhere, confused, the people will become victims," he concluded.
