Sergio Ramos New Record

JAKARTA - Sergio Ramos made history when he scored Real Madrid's opener on Sunday, 19 July evening.

In the match against Leganes in La Liga's final jornada, the Real Madrid captain scored his 11th league goal of the season.

This means that it is the highest number of goals scored in a season for any defender in La Liga in the 21st century.

Mariano Pernia previously held the record for goals this century with 10 for Getafe 15 years ago.

Since La Liga restarted in June, Ramos has scored as many goals as Lionel Messi, which is six.

This number is the key to Real Madrid's success, which won the La Liga title in Jornada 37.
