Governor Lukas Enembe Invites Residents Of 5 Tribes, From Mountains, Valleys And Beaches To Succeed PON
PAPUA - People from five indigenous territories in Papua are invited to warmly support the succession of the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) which will be held from 2-15 October 2021.
The invitation was conveyed by the Daily Chair of PB PON Papua, Yunus Wonda who represented the Governor of Papua Lukas Enembe. The Papuan people will become a unifying icon of the nation.
"Inviting people in the mountains, valleys, and coastal areas from five customary areas to be able to provide support and keep Papua safe and comfortable," said Yunus at the Lukas Enembe Stadium, Antara, Thursday, September 30.
The succession of PON XX Papua is also considered capable of showing its existence to all children of the nation that even though it is located far in the eastern part of Indonesia, national-scale activities can be well organized.
The previous COVID-19 pandemic shifted the timing of the XX Papua PON which was supposed to be held in 2020, but with the mandatory COVID-19 vaccine and the implementation of strict health protocols, the event could also be held in 2021.
"This PON is a very tough PON because we are in abnormal conditions. We carried out this event during the COVID-19 pandemic. This did not make us slack but made us united," said Yunus.
The message is also expected to provide a warm start for the implementation of the XX Papua PON.
PON XX Papua was followed by 34 provinces with 37 sports with 56 sports disciplines and 679 matches.
The total quota of athletes who competed reached 6,442 athletes and the most prestigious competition activities in the country were divided into four clusters, namely Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Mimika Regency, and Merauke Regency.
