Sinkhole Film Review: A Disaster That Warms The Hearts Of A Family
JAKARTA - Korea adds to the long list of disaster films through the Sinkhole film. The film tells the story of the unsanitary residents of an apartment building who find themselves trapped hundreds of meters underground after heavy rain causes the entire structure to disappear into a potentially deadly sinkhole. At first Park Dong-wan (Kim Sung-kyun) is excited and Satisfied after 11 years of saving, he was finally able to buy a three bedroom apartment that was ideal for his family. They're excited about their new apartment, which means Dong-wan's daily commute to his middle management office job will be much shorter.
The problem began to be realized when his son's marble rolled towards the window by itself when placed on the floor. The building houses the other four families shown at a glance. Only Man-su's family is shown in its entirety along with his surly teenage son, Seung-Tae (Nam Dae-reum).
When Seung-hyeon (Lee Kwang-soo) and Eun-ju (Kim Hye-ju) visit to celebrate Park Dong-wan's move, something else happens. The building sank hundreds of meters into the sinkhole. Those trapped in the building had to endure waiting for help to survive.
But the rescue mission was not an easy one because the unstable ground made rescue impossible from above. Those trapped in the sinkhole, must find a way to return to the surface.
Actually, the CGI film is far from perfect. The disaster, which seemed made up because the damage to the soil only occurred inside the building, seemed odd. However, forget the full CGI.
Forcing a rescue scene with a cable that ended dramatically with the eyes of Seung Hyeon and Eun Ju who met and fell in love, instead of being romantic, they succeeded in making laughs.
However, the social and satirical stories conveyed in this film become an interesting drama. Social critique of middle class workers who struggle to own their own house in Seoul. It takes tens of years for every worker to have a decent house for his family, it's not much different from middle-class workers in Indonesia. This can make the audience smile to themselves when watching it.
The emotional changes in each character in a state of being trapped in a deep hole are interesting to observe. Difficulty bringing warmth, even to previously unknown people. This is what makes the Sinkhole movie interesting to watch until the end.
Still, disaster will bring sorrow. The complete composition of the flavors offered makes a lot of apologies to things that seem forced for the rescue mission in this film. In the end, family is a warm place to come home to.
