Frenkie De Jong: Changing Coaches Is Not A Solution
JAKARTA - Despite a crushing defeat against Benfica, Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong gave his support to Ronald Koeman. He said changing coaches was not the solution.
De Jong was one of the players who performed well on a difficult night for Los Cules. However, their Champions League season is in danger of becoming a complete disaster after losing to Bayern Munich and Benfica in the opening two group stage matches.
"I don't think changing coaches is a solution," De Jong said in a post-match interview, according to MARCA.
"I can't talk about Koeman, that's not my place.
"We have to keep fighting, stay together and overcome this situation. We can only get away from this by working hard and sticking together as a team."
De Jong felt that Barcelona's performance in the first half was not too bad, but the wasted opportunities actually cost the Blaugrana.
"It's a difficult moment now, they scored the first goal very early," he added.
"It always makes things difficult.
"In the first half we didn't play badly; we created chances but we didn't score. After the second goal, the game was too open and we didn't react well."
